Many of us found our way into the wonderful world of rabbits when we purchased a bunny from a pet store or a breeder. After spending even a short amount of time working in animal rescue, very few of us would choose to buy again from a pet store or a breeder. There are far too many bunnies abandoned and euthanized every year to justify the exacerbation of an already-overfull overfull market.


Foster home or a shelter? Both good places to get a bunny.  BunnyBuddies works closely with Houston area animal shelters, and we are just as excited to see a shelter bunny find a home as one of our foster bunnies.  When you adopt from one of our foster homes however, the foster family can tell you about the bunny's personality, litter box skills, recent health, and how he or she came into the foster program. When you adopt from a shelter, you're not likely to get this kind of information. You are, however, possibly saving a bunny from euthanasia and making space for the next homeless bunny. Either way, you're spared the expense of spay or neuter surgery, which can cost $150 or more.

Looking for a Buddy for your Bunny? Our "Rabbit Care Guide" offers tips for adding another rabbit to your family. Experienced Bunny Buddies volunteers can also assist you in person at one our Events or by special appointment. Conventional wisdom holds that the least difficult couple to introduce is a neutered male and a spayed female. However, from our experiences in dealing with spayed/neutered bunnies, success in bonding seems to have much more to do with the individual bunny personalities than with the genders. We strongly encourage you to bring your current bunny with you and let him/her help decide!
