Finding a New Home (Re-Homing)
Thanks for Caring!
If you're trying to help a house rabbit find a new home, no matter what the reason, we at Bunny Buddies appreciate your taking the time to learn about your options. Over the years, we've found the following advice to be helpful:
- Read through our Rabbit Care Guide or Contact Us for advice on specific problems. A few simple changes may be all you need to transform the bunny into a cherished family member.
- Have the bunny spayed or neutered. This solves a lot of behavior problems, makes the bunny adoptable, and prevents a healthy bunny from developing cancer of the reproductive system. We can help you find a vet and possibly help with the cost. See Spay & Neuter Resources.
- Contact Us to have the bunny placed on our list of bunnies available for adoption.
- Bring the bunny to one of our Events. He may meet the family of his dreams.
- Foster the bunny yourself until he or she can be adopted. (See Become a Foster Home.)
- Surrender the bunny to one of Bunny Buddies' foster homes, if there are any openings. (See Contact Us.)
- Surrender the bunny to an animal shelter, at the risk of euthanasia. (See Links.)
Please be aware that many excellent shelters have no other choice than to euthanize perfectly healthy, loving companion animals. There are simply more homeless animals than there are cages and foster homes. If this bothers you, please join us in supporting spay and neuter efforts in your community.

Further Advice from Our Rabbit Care Guide
Our Rabbit Care Guide offers these additional tips:
- Place an ad in the paper and in vets' offices.
- Litterbox-train the rabbit.
- Interact with the rabbit so she is used to people.
- Provide her with toys to show prospective adopters that she is a fun, interesting companion animal.
- NEVER offer your rabbit for free. Insist on a modest $10 charge. This will prevent your rabbit from becoming snake food.
- Insist that your rabbit go to an indoor home only.
- Recommend that prospective adopters read our Rabbit Care Guide or any of the other fine Literature mentioned in this site.
