Adoption Policies  (Mandatory reading for all adopters)

Our policies may appear rigid, but they serve a purpose: These rabbits have already been homeless once, so it is our goal to provide each rabbit with a permanent, loving home where he or she can flourish for the rest of his or her life. We refer to this home as a "forever home".

We require that you read our "Rabbit Care Guide" prior to submitting your Adoption Application. The Guide is a fairly quick read, and most people find it very helpful in determining whether a rabbit will be a good companion.  It also gives you a good sense of what to expect from sharing your home with a rabbit.

Bunny Buddies adopts to indoor homes only. We can advise you on bunny-proofing, litter box training, and housing (see our Rabbit Care Guide and visit the New Bunny Owners Reference Page on this web site).

All bunnies are spayed or neutered before becoming available for adoption.
·
We do not separate bonded pairs.
·
If you already have bunnies, dogs, other pets, or children, we can help with matchmaking. Bunnies can very successfully cohabitate with with most other species with proper preparations. However, some species and breeds pose a large enough threat to preclude adoption.

Rabbits should never be a child's full responsibility. An adult must sign the adoption paperwork and agree to accept responsibility for the rabbit.

Children under 12 should meet the rabbit first.
·
Dogs must be obedience-trained and should meet the rabbit first.
·
Any other rabbits in your home should be spayed or neutered (and have waited several weeks after the surgery) and should meet the new rabbit first. Should you need assistance in choosing a vet to perform the spay/neuter, we can help.

We reserve the right to make a home visit to ensure the suitability of the home environment for the rabbit you choose.

Even if you are approved for adoption with Bunny Buddies, a member of our Foster/Adoption team — in consultation with the foster parent of the bunny in question — reserves the right to determine that a specific rabbit is not a good match for your family.

Your adoption fee (which is actually a donation to Bunny Buddies) is non-refundable. Actually, an adoption fee is not legally a donation, since the adopter is receiving something tangible of value (a much higher fair market value than our fee, in fact.) However, if for any reason the adoption doesn't work out, we require that the bunny come back into our custody.

 Adoption Fees: Bunny Buddies' adoption fee is $40 per rabbit or $60 for a bonded pair. Please be aware that your adoption fee does not come close to covering our expenses. Any additional donation you are able to give will be most appreciated.
Your adoption will include a complimentary one-year membership with Bunny Buddies. We hope that at the end of that year, you will opt to renew at our very nominal fee.
